Leanne Cathcart – Lead Vocals

Leanne is the latest member of 5th Avenue

Leanne has a background in Performing Arts and joined her first band aged 15.  Never far from the stage, from 10 piece Soul outfits to high quality function bands gigging all over Scotland, Leanne has racked up a wealth of performance experience that will make your party go with a swing.

Leanne uses Shure and Laney gear for live gigs.  Leanne loves to interact with live audiences and will make sure that everyone at your event is involved from the very start and hitting the dance floor all night long…

5th Avenue only use the highest quality PA systems. They use a Mackie paired system to ensure the sound is delivered clear and full for any event room size. For larger work they use a live sound engineer for extra power and control.

Dave Gordon – Drums

Dave is a founding member of 5th Avenue.

Twenty-Two years ago, Dave pulled together 4 other talented musicians including current band members Gary, Derek and Nigel. Gary being the first and together they filled the other slots to create a new band specifically for functions, corporate events, fundraisers and festivals. The band had the chemistry, worked as a team and gelled very well together, this gives you one result , a great band!! After a lot of hard work rehearsing the band started out with a couple of low key gigs. Success came very quickly and 5th Avenue was born and became a top recognised and well know band throughout parts of the UK and having many sell out gigs.

Dave is an experienced drummer and has played in various bands, his last band before forming 5th Avenue was the highly rated pop/ Indie band “The MJ-12”. He enjoys being behind his drum kit no matter what type of event it is or what songs he is playing , and always likes to make sure the audience enjoys themselves. Dave’s kit was custom made by Yamaha in the USA and he is a great fan and user of Zildjian cymbals. He admires many famous and local drummers as each drummer has their own style.

“One person in particular that I am very grateful to is Duncan Malcolm who owned the Cammach Hotel, Duncan allowed the band access to his function room to rehearse anytime we wanted, If you’re in a band then you know getting rehearsal space is very difficult, (it was back then!!)”.

Gary Duncan – Keyboards, Acoustic Guitar and Vocals

A founding member of 5th Avenue, Gary has played 22 years with the group. Gary plays keyboards (Yamaha), acoustic guitar (Taylor) and vocals on harmonies and occasional lead. He also has sound engineer experience so is on hand with live mixing duties. Gary said, “I enjoy playing the variety of songs that people want to hear. I’m able to give us different flavours to our sound depending on what I use, the possibilities mean we can cover most styles of music completely live."

Gary uses mainly a Taylor 214ce acoustic electric guitar, Yamaha Tyros keyboard and Sennheiser microphones.

Derek McDonald – Lead Guitar

Derek is an experienced guitarist, he previously played in bands covering a variety of genres before he joined the band in the early 2000s.

Derek uses Fender amps, Gibson guitars and a variety of effects & pedals to create the different sounds required.

Derek said, “It’s great fun playing with the lads, we’re a tight unit and really enjoy what we do”

Nigel Jones – Bass

Nigel moved to Aberdeen in 2001 and joined the band soon after as one of the early members of 5th Avenue, and as the band started building up a reputation as one of the best function bands in the North East.

Initially a guitarist in his early teens, Nigel soon warmed to bass and loves holding down the groove with the drummer. An accomplished bass player, he loves the variety of music genres played in a wedding and function band.

Nigel has played a variety of basses over the years and currently favours a 1993 Musicman StingRay,  vintage Japanese Tokai Jazz basses, or more modern German-made Sandberg  and Warwick basses - usually 4-string, but ocasionally 5-string as required. Amplification is a Markbass Little Mark 800 with a Markbass 2 x 12 cab and a TC Electronics 4 x 10 cab.

 Effects consist of:

Nigel quotes Nick Mason, drummer of Pink Floyd, who allegedly said, “A band is made up of a Drummer and a Bassist with additional novelty acts”…. (only kidding guys!).
